Zero 7
Zero 7 is Sam Hardaker and Henry Binns, a North London production and remix duo.
They went from being name dropped in hip circles for their stunning remixes and two
limited, critically acclaimed EPs to becoming a household name, whose debut album
"Simple Things" became the must have CD in the summer of 2001, selling over
300,000 in the UK alone. Three years later came the 2nd album, "When It Falls",
influenced by the band's extensive touring, which provided new experiences and an
opportunity to try out new songs that would become the backbone of When It Falls.
They took these tunes in their raw state to a house in Southern Spain, and turned
them into gossamer-gorgeous songs and instrumentals, powered by hiphop soul,
70's jazz-funk & a perfectly pitched line in understatement.

These two thirty-something Londoners have been
friends since they met in the
schoolyard. "When we met on the mid 80's
I was a soul boy," proclaims Henry,
"while Sam was more into hip-hop." They soon
began bonding, however, on music
that wasn't directed at your typical teenager.
They pored over ancient Ray Charles
recordings to find the roots of its authentic
soul, as well as the quirky tweaks of its
analog production: how the reverb sounded so
warm, how the vocals sounded
raw, yet distinct, how the orchestration would
create an eerily emotional Greek
Chorus counterpoint to the song's lyrics. At
the same time, they were living through
England's acid-house epoch, where DJs found many
kinds of music - from rave,
acid jazz and rare groove to trip-hop and ambient
-colliding in the technological
advances of the digital era. They've rubbed
shoulders
with the likes
of everyone from Robert Plant to the Pet Shop
Boys.
